Our Staff

Kurt Halvorsen – Executive Director – Contribute to Kurt’s Salary
Kurt grew up in Elmwood Park, IL. He attended Camp Awana starting at a young age. After graduating high school, Kurt attended Illinois State University and got involved with Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ). Kurt transferred to Moody Bible Institute in January 1994 and graduated in 1997 with a BA in Youth Ministry. Kurt served as a Student Pastor for 15 years at the following churches: Terrace Shores EFC, Bensenville Bible Church and Springbrook Community Church. Kurt married his lovely wife Kristy in June 1999 and they have 3 kids: Bryce, Trent and Mackenzie. Kurt became the Executive Director in June 2012. The Halvorsen Family is responsible to to raise their own salary (Missionary Support).

Adam Conkle – Program Director – Contribute to Adam’s Salary
Adam will be joining the Camp Awana staff in early June 2018 and will be responsible for overseeing all 11 of the programs that Camp Awana runs. Adam received an MA in Theology from Talbot School of Theological at Biola University. Adam has served in student ministry since 2008, most recently as the Student Pastor at Fannin Terrace Baptist Church in Midland, TX. Adam is married to Laura and they have three girls: Lucy, Anna Britt and Sadie. The Conkle Family is responsible to raise one quarter of their salary (Missionary Support).



Mark Van Natta – Buildings and Grounds Supervisor – Contribute to Mark’s Salary
Mark joined the Camp Awana staff in August 2013. Mark grew up in Chicago, IL and attended Camp Awana as a camper and eventually became a volunteer. Mark is also a Volunteer Firefighter and an EMS Team Member. Mark has three children: Luke, Josh and Nikki. Mark is responsible to raise his salary (Missionary Support)






Rebecca (Becky) Kuehmichel – Housekeeping/Buildings and Grounds
Becky joined the Camp Awana staff in October 2017. Before joining the staff, Becky served as a volunteer at Camp Awana. She is also a Volunteer EMT Team Member and an avid dog lover.


Bob Deyo – Food Service Manager
Bob has been on staff at Camp Awana since 1986. Bob has many interests including acting in local musicals and leading tours of Washington D.C. Bob is married to his wife of many years, Suellen.
